MOMENTS WITH MPILISO DAKE NYATHI

Tuesday 10 January 2017

Meet one of Zimbabwe's most popular fashion designer Ngoni Motsi,he is also preparing to showcase at Mpumalanga Fashion and Design Week Spring/Summer 2017 in South Africa.

Ngoni Motsi (NM) is one of the most popular designers in Zimbabwe whose label Chenna Nenni has made waves in the fashion industry in Zimbabwe.Ngoni Motsi is being interviewed by Tapiwanashe Rubaya (TR) about his (Ngoni Motsi's) upcoming collection which his launching in February.

TR:Take us to your bio in the fashion industry ...
NM:Chenna Nenni is a year old luxury fashion label, which, in 2016 was in three fashion shows, Madam C Hre, (Royals Collection), The September Fashion Issue Hre, (Joy Collection) and iFashion Fest Byo, (Risks Collection).  It sponsored an African Themed line it did not release at the Miss University of Zimbabwe, and was in a couple of videos like the Hit song Mukoko by Tytan and Ammara Brown. It was also part of the Miss Tourism Zimbabwe as well.
TR:What type of fashion designs in terms of themes do you mainly focus in?
NM:Chenna Nenni focuses more on clothes for events, bridal wear, luxury unique pieces and accessories, plus anything else that a client might specifically need.

TR:Who are some celebs who have won you own designs?
NM:RnB singer/song writer Cindy Munyavi, Hollywood Lee, Tytan of the Mukoko hit single, Gospel artist Kudzai Sevenzo, Miss Tourism Zimbabwe voice and co-MC Rebecca Muchenje, news anchor and Miss Tourism Finalist, Afro jazz sensation Eve Kawadza, Hip Hop Queen Dice, former Miss Zimbabwe Emily Kachote, and many more.
TR:Are Zimbabwean customers supportive when it comes to local designers, designed clothes?
NM:They are not really supportive, as they prefer Chinese products sold in boutiques more. Most people only come to use when arises an event which has a dress code that  they cannot buy in the boutiques.

TR:How do you make sure local buyers to buy your designs and how do you make sure your collection designs reach out to the public?
NM:We market at lot, on social media and in magazines. Plus our clothes market themselves more, as most of our clients are referrals.
TR:Which shop retailers around the country can your customers find your collection designs?
NM:Cindy’s fashion Corner, Hip Hop empire and a few more outlets this 2017.

TR:How do you manage to copy in terms of the competiton within the market between the local designers and regional designers ?
NM:Fashion like music is an art, and you really cannot compare two musicians’ music directly as people have different choices and tastes influenced by background, demography and a lot of things. You can only compare two artists with their sales, which is also relative in a way, as another artist might prefer less or no sales but the certification of their work. So the only competition we have is ourselves
TR:You are to introduce your fashion collection in February. briefly tell us what the collection is about and what inspired you to do this collection
NM:Chenna Nenni’s next collection will be called  Midas Coal and it is going to be more elegant, and more high fashion, as we are concentrating more on detail and design. Our next collection is going to be mostly female, and it will also include a new complete jewellery line that we have been working on for a while now, and it will be stocked in a shop to be mentioned later the week after the show.

TR:when is this collection going to launched in February?
NM:In the 11th of February at the Fashion Designers Expo Zimbabwe, Fashion Fights Cancer at News Cafe.
TR:After the launch of your collection are we going to see the collection being showcased in several runways?
NM:After the launch, the collection is going to be showcased in Bulawayo at the Summer Fashion Awards on 14 February and Johannesburg  South Africa at the launch of the Mpumalanga Fashion and Design Week MFDW on the 25th of February.
TR:After the release of the design what is next for you and your brand.
NM:After the Launch, and the other two fashion shows, Chenna Nenni goes Retail.
