DELAYED BUT NOT DENIED.

Growing up in an environment surrounded by cameras and in addition having a father who was a professional photographer and a mother who is a well established fashion designer, it paved way for Delany Peterson to be part of the modelling a platform which one can use to express his thoughts and emotions.
Recently Delany Peterson was crowned the new Mr Global Africa Zambia he takes over the office from Ethan Ngandu.
Delany took part in the Mr Global Africa Zambia after he was influenced by his loved ones.
"Winning this has given me a platform to reach out to people and speak out a lot about challenges that I've faced, challenges that we as humans face but turn the other check," Delany Peterson.

Despite entering the pageant at a later stage than other participates, Delany never thought of giving up as his fans continued supporting him through votes.
"At first when the competition begun I was in Finland visiting my girlfriend and learning about Finnish culture,I really thought I was not going to make it on time back in Zambia.
"When I finally decided that I will take part in the pageant. I realised that I had a lot of people that looked up to me having a few votes due to my late advertising about the pageant, "said Peterson.
During the pageant Peterson won the Best Body award, which he described it as a miracle after he faced some injuries three months before the pageant.
Delany said as Mr Global Africa Zambia he is going to make sure that empowerment is done especial to the male models.

He advised sponsors and promoters especially in Zambia to assist male models by sponsoring shows as this will empower the male modelling industry.
"We need more sponsors and managers to put more effort in placing us male models on higher platforms, that is the only way the world can see the potential of Zambian male models, "said Peterson.

Zimbabwe's King Of The Runway To Handover His Duties.

He has been with the AMMFI brand as its ambassador, since he emerged in the industry. The name Shadel Noble (SN) is one of the names that our dominating Southern Africa's modelling industry. Almost ever fashion photographer and designer in Southern Africa wants to have Shadel to feature in one of his or her pieces. This is because of his modelling profile, which speaks on his behalf, his the current reigning Mr Zimbabwe and his AMMFI brand ambassador.
The AMMFI which is a modelling and fashion brand which nurtured Shadel for a long time as their ambassador are seeking a new ambassador from Zimbabwe, meaning that Shadel has to hand over his duties as the ambassador to someone. We find out from Shadel Noble about his journey as the AMMFI ambassador.

TR:Being part of the AMMFI what did it meant to you and your career?
SN: Being part of the AMMFI, really meant a lot to me and my career because I was going to be their first ever, brand ambassador from  Zimbabwe and a brand ambassador for anything career related for the first time.
I was really proud of it and this meant a possibility of more gigs in and around Southern Africa which was truly exciting.

TR:What benefits did you obtain from the brand?
SN: The benefits I obtained from this where vast, such as getting more bookings that where  out of Zimbabwe  which  was really exciting because this was the start  of my modelling career and more work in fashion.

TR:During your reign as the brand ambassador of AMMFI  what are some of the runways fashion shows did you take part in?
SN: During this time, some of the great and memorable shows I did where, Mpumalanga Fashion Design Week, Swaziland Fashion Week and Tshwane Fashion Festival which I thoroughly enjoyed.

TR:Shadel you are both the reigning  Mr Zimbabwe and the brand ambassador of AMMFI how did you manage to different the two during your work?
SN: Yes I am and it was an interesting time to be and to be honest, it was not really as hard as one would think  because the two title came at different times and in different seasons so I didn't have to dim one in order for the other to shine, there was a gel and flow to them both to have the needed focus in their times.

TR:As this year a new brand ambassador from your own country is taking over from you. What characteristics do you believe are needed from the new ambassador ?
SN: I believe people differ and do things differently in everything but i think the characteristics that I believe the new  ambassador may need  have and exude is passion, they would need to be a natural leader and definitely be hard working because that will always beat talent in any industry.

TR:Will you still be part of the AMMFI family after you resign as the ambassador of the brand?
SN: Without a doubt, yes,I most definitely will be still part of the AMMFI because that is family, that's where I could say it really began the international recognition I've received and they really have nurtured me and I see most of them as  my brothers and sisters, that's family right there.

TR:To your modelling career recently we have been seeing you working with big brands from your country such as Edgars. Can one say indeed hard work pays and are we going to be seeing you working with more big fashion brands?
SN: Hard work always pays  off and I stand by that belief always cause with out the passion and hard work in one puts in,talent alone can't do it,there's many talented folk without a job out there search because they thought they were talented enough to wait and be found instead of finding work to fit and expand their talent, personally i believe I wouldn't be where I am today if I didn't put the work in alongside the talent,it's 50/50.

TR:To the AMMFI team what words do you have for them after working with them as their brand ambassador ?
SN: To the AMMFI team,I am grateful and tremendously honoured that they chose me and saw my passion organically and  I would  like  to thank them for helping me grow as a model and continue to support me and   helping me to excel as a model.

TR:Also to the new ambassador who will be selected what motivating words do you have ?
SN: For the new ambassador I would say,   always  work hard  and never  give up,never grow a big head and  think you have made it,if anything, being awarded the title means you have a bigger task and more work at hand than before because you are carry a torch from the last to the next and you have to keep it burning and continue the process that already was and needs to be continued.

CAMEROON MODEL NICK PARKER MAKES HIS COUNTRY PROUD AT THE RECENT MAN OF THE WORLD PAGEANT HELD IN PHILIPPINES.

Nick Kevin is a Cameroon model who is also the 3rd runner up for
Mister Earth Fire pageant which was hosted in Philippines.
This year his one of the few African models who participated in Man of
The World Pageant which was held in Philippines. In an interview Nick
Kevin (NK) shares with us some his greatest moments during the Man Of
the World Pageant.

TR:Who is Nick Kevin Parker?
NP: Nick Kevin Parker is a 23 Cameroonian Model. I m a graduate of
Journalism and Mass communications.

TR:Tell us more about your modelling career?
NP: I started modeling in 2016, when i got the title of Mister Pacific
World Cameroon. With this title i was suppose to represent my country
at the next edition of Mister Pacific World 2017 in Peru, May 2017.
Unfortunately i couldn't travel due to visa issues. I didn't give up,
i kept working till i got other opportunities.

TR:You previously participated at Man of the World pageant, share with
us some of the experience that you had?

NP: Man of the world pageant is actually my second international pageant.
In April 2018 i left my country to take part in Mister Earth pageant
in the Philippines  in which i got the title of Mister Earth Fire
International 2018 (3rd runner up). This pageant took place 2 weeks
after i lost my father.I wasn't satisfied with Mister Earth pageant
because of the organization, so i joined Man of the world pageant.
This is an unforgettable pageant, i can say the best so far. This
pageant was not all about getting the crown but it was all about
brotherhood, building strong relationship. I liked the harmony and
friendship that existed among us contestants. It was such an amazing
experience since i met new cultures, new habits, lifestyles etc.....

TR:What was your greatest moment during the pageant?
NP: My greatest moment during the pageant is when i got a bronze medal
in swimwear competition. It was so amazing and i cried that day as i
remembered my father. I said to myself " your dad is happy, you made
him proud with this medal".
I Will also mention our different appearances in public where we
contestants were always welcomed with honors, respects; like Hollywood
celebrities.

TR:One might say Africa had few model who were contesting compared to
other continents. What do you think it means to Africa's modelling
industry ?

NP: In my opinion, i will just say that Modelling in Africa is still
trying to find its way. Many African countries don't support the idea,
as far as male models are being concerned. In my country for instance
modeling is always considered being a woman stuff.

TR:What would it mean if Africa hosted such an event?
NP: It Will be wonderful because this Will help Africa to come out
from the darkness an showcase his culture around the world, to make an
impact in the modeling industry and of course to promote our cultural
values, habits and talents to the whole world.

TR:Besides the man of the world pageant which other pageants have you graced?
NP: As i said earlier, Man of the world pageant is actually my second
international pageant. Mister Earth pageant was the first. I won't
stop at this point since other pageants are coming.

TR:You are based in Cameroon can you describe for us the modelling
industry in Cameroon especially for male models?
NP: Modeling in Cameroon is still crippling, poor especially for male models.

TR:Thank you for your time

NP:Thanks so much for this opportunity as you guys are promoting black
models around the world. I m so Grateful.

ZIM MODELS ARE GEARED UP FOR THE LATIN FRIDAY SHOW

Latin Fridays a fashion show which is celebrated in Zimbabwe every first Friday of the month in Harare was established 2 years ago. Where the audiences not only experienced the fashion show runway but also a night full of dancing to music and cuisine from different Latin countries. The show previously has hosted different fashion designers such as Tapfumanei Aka Coco;Reenzara,ZeeRat this year fashion artists such as Nandi Fashions,Tommy Classic Designs are among the list of those who will be showcasing their collection.Aftv caught up with two models who will be cat-walking during the first Latin Friday of this year ,which is going to be hosted in Harare. The two models spoke about their modelling history and what they think Latin Fridays is all about.

Malcolm Manyenga
I'm Malcolm Manyenga, second child out of three, aged 24 years old  and I am professional male model.
I've always admired models and everything they did just made me fall in love with the profession and I told myself I'm going to be one of the one day. I've been modelling for the past 3years and really this industry is not as glamorous as one might think but I still enjoy every bit of it. Just to name a few I've managed to model for some of the best brands like Econet wireless, have walked the catwalk at the Zimbabwe fashion week and really I'm still yet to achieve more and I know I can.
I've participated in the Zimbabwe fashion week, Latin Friday winter show, Rotaract Charity fashion show, etc.
Latin fridays is a platform to express yourself in many ways like you have to show your skills on the runway and your physic, and I'm hoping to get noticed from international iconic brands.
I'm inspired whenever I land a booking and every time I get a casting it really keeps me going and hungry for more in spite the fact that work might not really be there all the times still I always stays positive.
Warwick Beru
I am an extremely mature 24 year old part time interior design, shop manager by profession and novice model.
My short modeling career has opened the door to endless possibilities, both in Zimbabwe and internationally.
Today is Latin Friday, tomorrow who knows.
I was actually encouraged to model by a good friend of mine at the Latin Friday lingerie last year and absolutely loved it,I then thought  I had to come back again this year.
The Latin Friday show means a fun night out with family and friends, amazing trending apparel, gorgeous models and a night to remember.. My expectations of this year's show are limitless, but most importantly I hope to have fun above anything
My inspiration can be traced from David beckham, he started his career as a footballer and ventured into modeling to become the brand ambassadors for brands like Adidas and H&M and still has time for charitable events which is the direction I would like to see my career going.

"Growing up in Zimbabwe, having witnessed a number of challenges but through it all wounds got healed and there was overcoming"

Where he will be showcasing his own brand designs.

Mother's always know what is best for their children.

Zimbabwe's 19 year old model Reece Williams can testify to the above statement to be true.In an interview with Tapiwa Rubaya (TR) Mr Williams explains the role that his mother played to introduce him in the modelling industry.
During the interview he shares with Aftv his memorable photo shoot.

TR:Who is Reece Williams?
RW:Hi I’m Reece Williams, 19 years old, born and raised in Zimbabwe. I went to St. John’s College until after my o levels, I then left school to start doing my Diesel plant fitting apprenticeship.

TR:Tell us about your origins?
RW: Zimbabwe, Harare.

TR:How did you discover your modelling career?
RW: I discovered my modeling career with a lot of help from my mother who used to be a model back in her time. My mom knew of Karin Davidson and showed her some of my pictures, from there Karin helped me grow and signed me as a model under the Top Model Zimbabwe agency.

TR:You are a photogenic model and last year during Zimbabwe Models awards you were nominated under Best Visual. What did it meant for you?
RW:It meant a great deal to me, as I haven’t been modeling for very long and I haven’t done very many jobs either. It was a huge confidence booster and has given me a drive to become so much more than what I was.

TR:It seems like everyone is now a photogenic model because of taking pictures using smart phones. What's your definition of a photogenic model?
RW: Yes its true a lot more people can become a photogenic model in this day and age, but for me a real photogenic model is someone who knows the appropriate way of taking photos, who doesn’t need Photoshop or large amounts of editing to look good.

TR:You work under Top Model Zimbabwe, what have you benefited from working under Karen's wings?
RW: To work for Karin is a huge privilege, as what I have come to know is her models come first to her!! She bends over backwards to make the process easier and more enjoyable for her models. As she is well known in the industry many people come to her looking for models and this creates many job opportunities.

TR:What is the most interesting shoots that you have ever done?
RW: I think still the most interesting shoot I’ve done is for a music mobile app, where I was asked to dance In front of the camera, and myself not being the best dancer I felt like I looked more like a dancing fish than a model!! But all in all it was a very enjoyable shoot, all the people where amazing and my fellows models and myself had a really good laugh through the day.

TR:If you could talk to your ten year old self. What would you tell your self?
RW: I would  tell myself to concentrate more in lessons and to stop worrying about being the smallest kid in school. I would also tell myself that all the people who bullied me would mean nothing in the next 5 years to come and that my future looks really good. I’d also tell myself to be a little more caring towards those who where and are there for me

TR:Who is your role model in the industry?
RW: I have 2 role models actually both of which I look up to because when they In front of the camera, they look like they always having the best time and when they not, they live their lives the way they want too. Regardless of the fame, they just seem to enjoy life and that’s what I want from it too.
Francisco Lachowski
Toni Mahfud

TR:Lastly what is the best lesson you have learned from working in the fashion modelling industry?
RW: To always be patient and understanding. Being a model you often have to wait for people to get back to you on jobs and for shoots, you have to listen to the photographers and the people who have hired you, even if you don’t always agree. The outcome of the shoot doesn’t truly effect the model as much as it does the thing they where advertising.

SN: well  firstly everyone wants to be on top also  a lot of jealous going around and a lot of bad mouthing when someone is doing well if we could all put are difference aside and help each  other grow then that would change a lot Trust me.

The RETURN OF THE BEAST.

Miyamiko Banda 24 year old former model is back again in the modelling and fashion industry but not as a model but this time as the Master of Ceremony/presenter of a show.
Tapiwa Rubaya (TR) caught up with Miyamiko Banda (MB) who  was co-presenting the Harare Fashion Show last weekend and discussed about his new adventure as a presenter.
Also during the interview Mia states 5 fashion brands he would love to wear.

TR:Mia how are you can you briefly  describe yourself?
MB: My name is Miyamiko Banda and I am a 24 year old Project Manager at a company in Bulawayo called Indigo Group.

TR:Mia what defines your Mc/presenting career?
MB: Honestly bro, I'm a guy who just loves to speak, and speak my mind at it, MC’ing and hosting is just a formal way of allowing me do this virtually to many more people at the same time, a wise man once said “if you lack opinion, go sleep” I have more opinion to give than anyone else haha (giggling).

TR:There were some rumours that you have retired in the modelling industry how far true is that?
MB: The rumours are true, and they’re being spread by me as a matter of fact haha(laughing) I’ve retired as a catwalk model and I've chosen to pursue my business career at a higher level, although I still get involved in photography which has always been a very interesting hobbies of my own.

TR:Can one say that Harare Fashion week has played a big role as your come back in the industry as an MC?
MB: Harare Fashion Week is an amazingly huge platform for Zimbabwean Talent to exhibit their skills and craft with examples of prominent individuals like K7 and Takura both showcasing at the recent event.
Me as MC, well I've always loved speaking as mentioned before, and Harare Fashion Week has enabled me to reach out to a Harare audience for the first time, so I am thrilled and would definitely love to work with the team again.

TR:Briefly summaries for us your experience during the Harare Fashion week as an MC?
MB: My experience as mentioned in my previous answer has been ecstatic, the HFW team is truly organised and have shown me pure Harare hospitality, even made me consider moving to Harare, the team is vibrant, passionate and shows loads of potential which in turn ignites enthusiasm in someone like me.

TR:During your presenting you wore one of the brands that were being showcased, the ZimCollar what did it mean?
MB: Yes I wore ZimCollar when I opened the show, ZimCollar is an internationally based Zimbabwean brand located in Dubai, the designer behind it all is very passionate and I was honoured to wear his award winning clothing.

TR:What differences did you spot when compared to the fashion runway shows from your city and the Capital city of your country?
MB: Well in regards to the models who showcased during the event, I felt they needed more work and in comparison to Bulawayo Models I found most of them unprofessional and I can safely say this as I've worked with many professional models even on an international level, other than that The Fashion show itself was brilliant.

TR:To your fans what is in store for them before the end of the year?
MB: Haha (giggling) Tapiwa my friend, I do not have fans, supporters, or any sort of degradingly titled people, what I do have though is potential business colleagues, passionate people, mavericks and hardballs, and only greatness lies ahead for both them and myself this year.

TR:Away form the modelling ramp, you are a business man.As a young business man what words can you use to describe the environment of the business industry in your country?
MB: In my own capacity, I believe businesses are failing in Zimbabwe, very few start ups are penetrating the market, and many large standing businesses are failing to maintain their standards corely because they lack the appropriate tools for the appropriate job, for example the clear thought planning and project management that any business should possess is not receiving its fair share of dedication, people overlook the smallest components that make businesses successful and its the simplest of concepts that can rejuvenate turnover and increase revenue for many companies, this is what I do and my business speaks for itself.

TR:As we conclude the interview who are your top 5 fashion designers you would like to wear their collections as an Mc in the  future?
MB: The top 5 Zimbabwean designers who’s work and products I would love to wear are;
-Ara Kani
-K7
-Shadow
-Andre
-ZimCollar

ZIM COLLAR BRAND TO SHOWCASE AT SUNSHINE CITY.

Taurai Mushove a Zimbabwean upcoming designer who resides in Dubai. Has brought new changes in the fashion industry of his country through his brand Zim Collar.
In an interview with Tapiwa Rubaya (TR), the Zim Collar brand owner Taurai Mushove explains the uniqueness of his brand. He also shares why his showcasing his brand in Zimbabwe for the first time.

TR:Taurai can you introduce yourself to our readers?
TM:My name is Taurai Mushove. I’m a 31 year old Zimbabwean currently based in Dubai, UAE. Banker recently turned Fashion Designer.

TR:Judging from the previous chat we had you have zero background in the fashion industry but you have made a name for your self. What is the secret?
TM:Lol. Well thanks for the kind words, however, it’s still early days. There’s still a WHOLE LOT of ground to cover till I “make a name for myself!” I guess the secret is nothing more than my heart’s desire for us Zimbabweans to take pride in our cultural heritage. This resonates with people who have come across my work and understand why I am doing what I’m doing.

TR:Its now more than 2 months since your brand was launched how has the response been in Dubai and back Home in Zimbabwe?
TM:The response has been overwhelmingly positive both in Dubai and Zimbabwe and, in other parts of the world where there’s a number of Zimbabweans such as the UK, USA, South Africa and Australia. Lots of inquiries have predominantly come from these countries and have had sales from most of them.

TR:You are going to showcase your brand's collection during the harare fashion week and it will be your first time showcasing your brand in Zim.Why did you select that show to be your introduction?
TM:The theme for the HFW is what attracted me the most as it goes hand in hand with my collection.

TR: When one looks at the designs that are made via your line they can tell they are African how did you make sure those designs are highlighting African stories?
TM: The Dashiki design is arguably the most popular and universally recognized African clothing style. I adopted the same dashiki design so as to leverage on its popularity and importantly, begin to engage on the discussion of having our very own Zimbabwean attire that will someday be adopted across the African continent. The main features of this design are our national symbols such as the national flag colours, the Great Zimbabwe walls, the balancing rocks, our national flower the flame lily, the baobab tree which is also our national tree and a touch of the Zimbabwean bird.

TR:During the show besides showcasing what are you hoping to achieve?
TM:Since I am still new to the industry, I want to take this opportunity to learn a lot about fashion shows and network with the stylists and the stakeholders of the fashion industry. I sincerely hope that the outcome of this event will inspire us to come up with more unique Zimbabwean attires that will ultimately get adopted by every citizen of our country for the greater good of dressing our cultural nakedness.

TR:Speaking about the show you will be working hand in hand with models from Zimbabwe. What are you expecting from them as they will be catwalking while wearing your brand?
TM:This event comes at a very unique period in our country just a month or so before the elections that I believe will usher a new age of patriotism among Zimbabweans. I would like the models to know that they will be making history as they wear my brand.

TR:Besides Harare Fashion week any fashion  shows you are going to grace in Zimbabwe?
TM:I  will be looking forward to taking part in the Zimbabwe Fashion Week in August and hopefully, be part of the stylists chosen to dress the models for the Miss Zimbabwe pageant!

COLIN RATISAI'S GIANT BLUE DRESS.

Yes HIFA (Harare International Festival Arts)came and went however the Giant blue dress which was won by Zimbabwe's Mbira Princesses is still the talk in everyone's mouth.
The Gigantic Blue dress was won by Hope Masike during the opening of HIFA.
Tapiwa Rubaya (TR) caught up with the man behind the concert of the dress Colin Ratisai (CR) who reveled how the Might Victoria Falls inspired him to come up with the concept of the dress.

TR:Colin can you tell us about yourself?
CR: My name is Colin Ratisai. I'm 34 years old.i was born in Harare and I am the third child in a family of 3.
TR:What led you to be part of the fashion industry?
CR:I've always loved putting together different textiles and to know how good they can work on people's clothes.
From a young age I've liked 'over the top' decorated garments. My sister was the first to get into fashion and
during my school days I always would prefer to work with her n her fashion studio than doing my
homework. My love for fashion has been with me from as long as I can remember draping fabric on dolls.

TR:Zimbabwe has faced economy downfall as a young business designer how has that affected you in the fashion industry?
CR:Growth in the industry has been stagnant. I certainly have no control of the graph as it escalates and descends,
never constant. It is really difficult in this economy to open up a specialised boutique offering high end fashion
and designing for specific occasion or event. The theatre and entertainment industry, which are natural
strongholds for fashion have also suffered making it difficult for artist to have a budget for wardrobe or
costume. I find myself struggling to find new business but at the same time having built a name over the years
there are people who seek me out & order clothes from time to time.

TR:Kindly state some fashion shows that you have showcased your brand ?
CR:I honestly have not show cased my collection in recent years but I used to represent & participate in the many
different fashion weeksin Zimbabwe and regionally including Zambia, South Africa&West Africa.

TR:Recently during HIFA you dressed 'Hope Masike' during the Hifa and the dress took everyone's attention?
CR:I did the Styling and Costume for HIFA opening' We Count' concert .Actually I have had the pleasure of
dressing the Princess of Mbira, Hope Masike for the last 3 years of Hifa & in different shows.

TR:Your brand hasn't been producing collections lately why?
CR: There is a price to represent your work on the different platforms, subsequently for the collection to sustain
itself there is need for buyers, magazines ,Bloggers etc to get the collection out there to the world so that as a
designer I can get a return on the investment made.

TR:Who came up with the concept of the giant dress which was woren by Hope Masike?
CR: CR.For the opening concert HIFA 2018 I worked with director James Blazsko who came up with the concept of
the show.He worked with different teams, stage, technical, choreography etc including me who did the
costuming.
The idea was to depict one of the things that we are most proud of as Zimbabweans, hence the Majestic Victoria
Falls. The Giant Dress had to represent the effect of the falls .

TR:Take us to the story behind the giant dress?
CR:The Blue dress, with its contrasting color tussels, was meant to signify the water fall. All this was supposed to
be viewed in the most artistic of ways rather than having a literal Victoria falls advert on television. So all the
different elements on stage where to be apart of the production. The lighting, the smoke that thunders, ballet
dancers and Derrick Mpofuslive song 'Chisikana changu Zimbabwe'.

TRWhat did it mean to you dressing the Mbira Princesses?
CR:I'd like to share that Hope Masike is amazing Human Being her hard work is brilliant.
She is wonderful in that she acknowledges and appreciate the works of other artists and she is going further.
